Estate Planning After the SECURE/CARES Acts
Vickie R. Wilcox, J.D., LL.M.
We will be discussing different considerations for coordinating a client’s retirement account with the client’s overall estate plan, given recent changes in the laws. Included in this discussion will be an overview of how the stretch out for many beneficiaries will no longer be available, and what this can mean for clients with various family issues (blended family, drug or spendthrift issues, etc.). We will review how a charitable remainder trust may be an option to replicate a stretch IRA for some philanthropic clients.

NMTRD Updates
Stephanie Schardin Clarke, CPA and Emily Oster, CPA
Secretary Schardin Clarke and Deputy Secretary Oster will review recent developments involving the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. They will discuss continued implementation of tax legislation enacted in 2019 and 2020, as well as recent technological advances at TRD. Finally, they will discuss the Department's outlook on the 2021 regular legislative session.

Uncertain, But Important, Issues in Partnership Taxation
Jim Hamill, CPA
This session will examine several current issues in partnership taxation. This will include how to report tax basis capital accounts to comply with mandatory 2020 reporting and whether targeted allocations of profit and loss actually work under Section 704. Stop reading now to avoid a spoiler alert. The answers: (1) We don’t know how to report tax basis capital accounts and (2) We don’t know if targeted allocations work.
